Accompanist

FAQs

Don't accompany yourself: hire me instead!

How long have you been accompanying for?

Over 15 years!

Who do you accompany for?

I have experience accompanying singers, brass players, woodwind players, strings, and choirs.

I have accompanied for local voice teachers in their studios, in lessons, SRMTA recitals and Regina Music Festival performances. I have accompanied the University of Regina Concert Choir and Chamber Singers; I am currently accompanist for both Ablaze and Ignite choirs in Regina, who perform with local organizations like the Regina Symphony Orchestra and Queen City Brass. I also have accompanied various instrumentalists and singers in the University of Regina undergraduate Music programs, and instrumentalists and singers taking lessons at the Conservatory of Performing Arts. I have accompanied for young band players performing in the Regina Catholic School system's Band Days festival.

Is it better to call you a Collaborative Pianist?

Either collaborative pianist or accompanist is fine! Some people think "accompanist" is almost pejorative, implying that I'm only sort of tagging along with the soloist. That is a valid viewpoint.  I don't mind it though. We all know how valuable accompanists/collaborative pianists are!

Do you offer coaching during rehearsals?

Yes! I will always work with you on ensemble. If you're open, I will offer more specific suggestions for musicality, phrasing, expression, and so on. If you are a singer, I can even offer suggestions for technique and diction.

What are your rates?

1 hour of rehearsal: $50

Fee for attending performance, jury, music festival class, etc: $30 (with the expectation that we have rehearsed sufficiently beforehand)

3rd/4th year undergrad recital: dependent on length of performance and difficulty of repertoire.  Contact me for more details.

Late fees may apply if you give me your music late. I may also cancel our agreement if the music is late and I deem it impossible for me to work it up to an acceptable level before a performance.  In a performance situation, if I have had insufficient notice or time to prepare, I will play poorly; this not only hinders your performance, but does not reflect well on my ability. Sadly, I can't stand up before I play and say "sorry everyone, I only got this music yesterday, so it won't sound good."  I just sound unprepared.
